Crutchfield, with a carriage house and servant's house.","why_significant":"It is presented as a good, intact local example of Neoclassical Revival architecture, keeping its two-story Ionic columns, entablature with dentils, dormers, corbeled chimneys and Georgian-plan interior. It is also significant as the work of Ivey P. Crutchfield, a noted regional architect who designed many buildings in southeast Georgia.","narrative":"Set on a prominent lot along West Liberty Street in Lyons, Georgia, this two-story frame house was built between 1908 and 1910 for timber businessman Robert Garbutt and his wife Missouri. Ivey P. Crutchfield, a self-taught regional architect from Georgia, drew the plans. The house follows the Neoclassical Revival style, with Ionic columns on a wraparound porch, a full entablature with dentils, dormers, a widow's walk and five corbeled chimneys. Inside, a Georgian-type plan places four large rooms around a central hall on each floor, with wood wainscoting, mantels, plaster ceiling medallions and heart-pine floors. A carriage house and a c.1920 servant's house survive on the property. Renovations in the 1970s added vinyl siding and modern conveniences, but the form and main features remain. The house is recognized as a good, intact example of its style and as a work of Crutchfield, who designed numerous commercial buildings, banks and residences across southeast Georgia.","period_of_significance":"1908-1910","architect_builder":"Crutchfield, Ivey P.","architectural_style":"Late 19th and Early 20th Century Revivals/Neoclassical Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single-family dwelling; exterior altered with vinyl siding over the original weatherboard, a reduced second-story veranda, and a 1970s garage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.278817-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/00001564.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00001564/8cb63bf3ac-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00001564/8cb63bf3ac-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Blastoids","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robert_and_Missouri_Garbutt_House_front.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Blastoids</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robert_and_Missouri_Garbutt_House_front.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209697","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_and_Missouri_Garbutt_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28810928"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/toombs-county/garbutt-robert-and-missouri-house-00001564/"}
