It also shows how railroads shaped hamlet growth in northern New York, moving passengers, farm goods, turkeys, grain and telegraph messages. It retains a high level of original interior and exterior integrity.","narrative":"Lisbon Railroad Depot is a small wood-frame station on County Route 10 in the center of the hamlet of Lisbon, St. Lawrence County. The Northern Railroad built the first depot in 1848. Fires destroyed it in 1925 and again in 1930, and the Rutland Railroad rebuilt it each time. The present 23-by-68-foot building has a hipped roof with wide eaves, brackets, exposed rafters, a projecting ticket-office bay and a signal tower. Inside are a waiting room, station manager's office, hallway and freight room, with original beaded board, oak floors and built-in cabinets. The depot mattered to the community because the railroad drove the hamlet's growth. It carried passengers to Boston and beyond, shipped milk, grain, cattle and turkeys, and housed a telegraph office until the late 1940s. Passenger service ended in 1953 and freight in 1961. The Town of Lisbon bought the building in 1991, and a grain dealer now rents it for storage.","period_of_significance":"1930-1950","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th and Early 20th Century Movements/Craftsman","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Owned by the Town of Lisbon and rented since 1988 to a local grain dealer for seed and feed storage; described as being in excellent condition, with the town intending eventual conversion to a museum.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.017231-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/00001422.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321906","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisbon_station_(New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6558644"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/st-lawrence-county/lisbon-railroad-depot-00001422/"}
