It is one of two early five-by-two-bay Federal-era dwellings in Coleman Station. It also retains stylish alterations from two later building periods.","narrative":"Set on the north side of Coleman Station Road in Millerton, this farmstead centers on a two-story, five-by-two-bay farmhouse built around 1773. It has a hand-hewn timber frame, wood clapboards, a stone foundation and a wide center passage that still holds its original stair. Federal in outward design, the house gained Greek Revival and Victorian changes, including two-over-two windows and chair rails added around 1870. A ca. 1920 garage stands nearby but is non-contributing. The land was bought in 1773 by Baptist minister Simon Dakin, who intended it for his son Caleb; Caleb apparently built the house and lived in it. After Caleb's death, the property passed through his daughters to his grandson Amasa Dakin Coleman, who assembled the holdings again in the 1830s and 1840s. The house is valued as an intact local example of late eighteenth-century architecture and as one of two early Federal-era dwellings of its size in Coleman Station.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1773-ca.1880","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic/Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a single dwelling; the house is largely intact from its construction, with later Greek Revival and Victorian alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.174809-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/00001421.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00001421/0e7b5c139e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00001421/0e7b5c139e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dakin-Coleman_Farm,_Millerton,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dakin-Coleman_Farm,_Millerton,_NY.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"93000945","name":"Coleman Station Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/coleman-station-historic-district-93000945/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317339","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakin-Coleman_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5209952"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/dutchess-county/dakin-coleman-farm-00001421/"}
