It is significant in agriculture, and in architecture for the well-preserved side-gable-and-wing house with the distinctive handcrafted woodwork of John Ellis McAuley. Its production mix of corn, small grains, cotton, fruit and livestock was typical of the county.","narrative":"Albert McCoy Farm is a 76-acre rural property in the Long Creek area of northern Mecklenburg County, where the same family has held land since 1770 and farmed it continuously since at least 1880. Its centerpiece is a c. 1886 two-story, side-gable-and-wing house on a stone pier foundation, with weatherboard siding, a standing-seam metal roof and a hip-roofed porch with sawn brackets. Local carpenter John Ellis McAuley built it, leaving handcarved mantels, board-and-batten ceilings and an open-string stair. A log crib, wellhouse, smokehouse and privy survive from the same era, set among pastures, fields, woodland and a 1930s pond. Albert McCoy, a Confederate veteran and a founder of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, raised twelve children here. The farm was recognized for its agricultural history, since its crops and livestock matched county patterns, and for the quality of the house's craftsmanship. It remains a rare, intact farm landscape amid fast-growing suburbs.","period_of_significance":"c. 1886-1925","architect_builder":"McAuley, John Ellis","architectural_style":"Other: Queen Anne-influenced","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"The house retains excellent integrity, and the farm remains in agricultural use with cattle and pasture; the surrounding area is under heavy development pressure.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:54.616892-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/46/7182/47718246/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/00001291.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00001291/797c820962-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00001291/797c820962-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Kittycolada911","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Albert_McCoy_Farm_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Kittycolada911</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Albert_McCoy_Farm_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47718246","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_McCoy_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19987023"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/mecklenburg-county/mccoy-albert-farm-00001291/"}
