It was built in 1875-76 over the Middle Fork of Little Beaver Creek.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is significant under Criterion C in engineering as an example of the multiple kingpost truss design in Ohio. It is also a representative work of Jeremiah C. Mountz, a leading Columbiana County covered bridge builder of the third quarter of the 19th century. It is one of five covered bridges left in the county and one of only two still on their original site.","narrative":"Spanning the Middle Fork of Little Beaver Creek on Eagleton Road, south of Salem, Ohio, this covered bridge was built in 1875-76 as a single span of eight panels using a multiple kingpost truss. It measures 67 feet long with a 63-foot clear span, and has vertical board siding, cut sandstone abutments and a wood shingle roof. Jeremiah C. Mountz built it under a county contract of $441, and David Reese is credited as stonemason. The bridge served the small community of Teegarden Station and its mill, and carried traffic daily until a concrete bridge bypassed it in 1992. Of roughly 3,850 timber truss bridges known to have been built in Ohio, only 135 remain. This is one of five covered bridges left in Columbiana County and one of only two still on their original sites. It was recognized for its engineering, as a good example of the multiple kingpost truss, and as work of a leading local builder.","period_of_significance":"1875-1950","architect_builder":"Jeremiah C.
