It is tied to the bluestone quarrying industry through its first owner, quarryman Anthony Manny. It was also used as a railroad boarding house from 1923 to 1935.","narrative":"Built around 1890 in the small Upper Delaware River hamlet of Hankins, this two-story frame house shows the Queen Anne style in its irregular massing, wraparound porch with turned columns and spindlework, polygonal bay with a sunburst pediment, and stained glass window borders. Inside, the original floor plan survives, along with dark stained woodwork, pocket doors, a built-in bookcase and a finely detailed staircase. Its first owner, Anthony Manny, worked in the bluestone business, and the carefully dressed bluestone foundation and a fully paved bluestone basement floor reflect that trade. After Manny sold his quarry interest and the house, the second owner, Erie Railroad foreman Edward McGuire, died in 1923, and his widow took in boarders, mostly rail travelers, until 1935. The house is recognized as one of the best preserved examples of its type in the valley, with original siding and millwork intact. A garage and a former privy used as a potting shed also contribute.","period_of_significance":"circa 1890-1935","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian / Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the interior retains its original floor plan and the house retains substantial period integrity despite minor alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.773184-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/00000840.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000840/155e5033f6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000840/155e5033f6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Ivygirl1967EHP","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anthony_Manny_House,_Hankins,_N.Y.,_circa_2000.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Ivygirl1967EHP</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anthony_Manny_House,_Hankins,_N.Y.,_circa_2000.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315029","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Manny_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4773004"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/sullivan-county/manny-anthony-house-00000840/"}
