The passenger station was constructed in 1902 and the freight station was also built in 1902.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the complex is locally significant for transportation, as the station was built to serve the North Penn and Reading rail lines that drove Quakertown's growth into the largest town in Upper Bucks County. It is also argued to be locally significant for architecture as a well-preserved railroad station complex that reflects the importance of the rail line and the town in the region.","narrative":"Built in 1902 in the Late Victorian style, the Quakertown passenger station is a 1½-story rusticated building of dark Rockhill granite with Indiana limestone bases and sills, under a hip roof that projects about eight feet over a concrete walk. Its waiting room, approximately 22 by 50 feet, retains built-in seats, wainscoting and a heater near the center. A freight station of 128 by 30 feet stands to the south, along with a large hand-operated crane. The complex was designed by Wilson Brothers and Company, using plans first drawn in 1889, and built by Cramp & Co. at a bid of $20,609. It was built to serve the North Penn line and the Quakertown and Easton spur, which helped make Quakertown a regional industrial and rail hub. The nomination regards the complex as an important example of railroad station design of its period and as the most representative surviving resource of the rail line in the area.","period_of_significance":"1889 - 1950","architect_builder":"Wilson Brothers and Company (designers); Cramp & Co.
