It combines Queen Anne interior finishes, a Colonial Revival exterior and elements of the Akron plan. It is also historically tied to the Silver Lake Institute, an early upstate New York religious camp.","narrative":"Epworth Hall is a large assembly hall on the grounds of Silver Lake Institute, a Methodist-affiliated camp on the east side of Silver Lake in Wyoming County, New York. Built in 1892 and attributed to Otis Dyer, it is a two-story, hip-roofed building in a vernacular Colonial Revival style, with a pedimented central entrance pavilion, six-over-six windows and Ionic pilasters. Inside, an exposed post-and-beam frame and trusses leave a nearly clear span. A sloped wooden gallery wraps three sides of the main floor, and the hall could seat about 1,000 people. Folding doors allow the space to be opened up in the manner of the Akron plan. The hall is the largest of three surviving assembly halls at the Institute and stands just outside the separately listed historic district. It was listed as an intact example of a large camp assembly hall of the late nineteenth century. It remains in seasonal use, with later changes including asbestos siding, added toilet rooms and a bell tower.","period_of_significance":"1892-1949","architect_builder":"Dyer, Otis","architectural_style":"Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals: Colonial Revival (vernacular)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Remains in seasonal use with no heating or cooling systems; used as a meeting hall and religious facility.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.690643-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/00000350.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000350/f9e712722a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000350/f9e712722a-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Pubdog","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Epworth_Hall_Perry_NY_Jul_11.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Pubdog</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Epworth_Hall_Perry_NY_Jul_11.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75323328","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epworth_Hall_(Perry,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5384058"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/wyoming-county/epworth-hall-00000350/"}
