It is significant in transportation because the railroad drove the town's growth, and the depot is the only surviving rail-related resource in Hoschton.","narrative":"Built in 1883, this small frame railroad depot sits beside State Route 53 in the center of Hoschton, Georgia. It rests on brick piers, is clad in weatherboard, and has a broad hip roof covered in V-crimp metal. Inside, the building is divided into a freight room, an L-shaped passenger waiting room and a ticket office, with beaded paneling surviving in the waiting room and office. The Hosch family, who founded the town, served as builders for the Gainesville, Jefferson and Southern Railroad. The depot is considered representative of small-town depots along that line, with close relatives in Talmo and Jefferson. It also marks the railroad's role in the town's growth, which brought about 250 residents by 1887 and a market for cotton and lumber. Passenger service ended in 1948, after which the building housed a corn mill, fire station, city hall, barbershop, gymnasium and other uses. It is the only surviving rail-related resource in Hoschton.","period_of_significance":"1883 - 1948","architect_builder":"Hosch, J.R. (builder, contractor); Hosch, R.A.
