It is also tied to the history of rail transportation and the Catskill resort trade. It was in service from 1905 to 1932.","narrative":"This small railroad station on Bailey Spur Road in South Gilboa, Schoharie County, was built in 1905 by the Ulster & Delaware Railroad. It is a one-story wood-frame building on a fieldstone basement, with shingled walls, a slate hipped roof, broad eaves and scroll-sawed brackets. Inside are a passenger waiting room, a stationmaster's office with a trackside bay window, and a freight and baggage room. Its parts were prefabricated, shipped by rail and assembled on site by railroad workers. The station served travelers heading to the Catskill Mountains resort area until the line serving South Gilboa was abandoned in 1932, after the New York Central took over the railroad. It has been vacant since and is deteriorated, but it keeps its original ticket window, bench seating and varnished beadboard wainscot. It was listed as a locally significant example of early twentieth-century railroad architecture and of rail transportation in the Catskills. The former rail bed beside it is now a hiking trail.","period_of_significance":"1905-1932","architect_builder":"Ulster & Delaware Railroad (builder); architect listed as N/A","architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Eastlake","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Vacant and somewhat deteriorated; the raised wood platform remains in deteriorated condition.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.342877-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/00000090.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000090/1d1a926ecc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000090/1d1a926ecc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Agreen54","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:South_Gilboa_Railroad_Station.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Agreen54</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:South_Gilboa_Railroad_Station.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321770","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Gilboa_station","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7567357"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/schoharie-county/south-gilboa-railroad-station-00000090/"}
