Brokaw & Co. of Deposit, NY, was the general contractor.","why_significant":"The church is a modest but highly intact, representative example of the small Protestant churches that spread through the Upper Delaware Valley's smaller communities in the late nineteenth century. It is significant under Criterion C and Criteria Consideration A. It is also tied to the growth of quarrying, tourism and the Erie Railroad, linking it to two historic contexts of the Upper Delaware multiple property listing.","narrative":"Built in 1896 beside Lordville Road, this small Presbyterian church is a one-story wood frame building with clapboard siding, a steep gabled roof and a bluestone foundation carved with its construction date. Gothic Revival details include pointed arch stained glass windows, a gabled side entry with tracery, and a small open belfry topped by a four-sided steeple. Inside, a raised platform, wainscoted walls and ceiling, and theater-style wooden seats survive, and only electrical fixtures have been altered. The congregation grew from a revival in December 1894 and later prayer meetings, then voted to become Presbyterian and hired Brokaw and Company of Deposit, New York. The building cost $1,607.85 and was turned over to trustees in September 1896. Its construction coincided with the boom in bluestone quarrying, summer tourism and Erie Railroad service in Lordville. It is valued as a highly intact example of a small late nineteenth-century village church in the Upper Delaware Valley.","period_of_significance":"1896","architect_builder":"Brokaw & Co., Deposit, NY, general contractor","architectural_style":"Late Victorian (Gothic Revival references)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a religious facility; the building is described as virtually unaltered since 1896 except for electrical fixtures.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.411131-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/00000052.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000052/77dd98d64f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/00000052/77dd98d64f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Doug Kerr from Upstate New York","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lordville_Presbyterian_Church_May_09.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doug Kerr from Upstate New York</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lordville_Presbyterian_Church_May_09.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312447","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lordville_Presbyterian_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6680258"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/delaware-county/lordville-presbyterian-church-additional-documentation-00000052/"}
